Fourth-year Seattle Seahawks punter Michael Dickson has had an excellent NFL career so far, averaging 47.6 yards per punt and booting 94 of his 213 career punts within the opposing 20-yard-line. In the Seahawks’ preseason contest on Sunday, he ended Seattle’s final exhibition on a high note, launching a perfectly-placed, 55-yard beauty — downed on the three-yard-line — to send the Seahawks into the regular season with a 27-0 victory.

In what would be their final possession of the game, the Seahawks were unable to advance the ball past midfield and were forced to punt on fourth-and-five, on their own 42-yard-line. Dickson then delivered a beautiful punt which at first seemed to be on its way to the end zone; however, it stopped on a dime, taking a perfect bounce and was downed on the opposing three.

Dickson had four punts in the final preseason game, averaging 44.8 yards per punt and downing three within the opposing 20-yard-line. His 55-yard punt in the fourth was his longest of the night.

Dickson has been a highly-successful punter for the Seahawks since he was selected in 2018, though perhaps no campaign was more successful than his freshman season. The fifth-round pick in 2018 was named a first-team All-Pro and a Pro Bowler as a rookie and has continued to produce ever since.

Dickson, a native of Sydney, Australia attended Prokick Australia, a prestigious academy for Australian kickers and punters. At Prokick, rather than going through the traditional recruitment process, each prospect is paired up with a school by the academy. Dickson was paired up with the Texas Longhorns and had a stellar three-year career in the Big 12.

Dickson in three years punted for over 10,000 yards, and his 10,242 punting yards is best in school history. He averaged 45.3 yards per punt, also best in Texas Longhorns history, and capped off his career with the 2017 Ray Guy Award, given annually to the nation’s best punter. Named a unanimous All-American, Dickson joined the ranks of an exclusive Texas club that boasts just 21 members.
