Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Gallup surprised the NFL world when he retired last July. Now, he’s making a comeback after taking the 2024 season off, and the 29-year-old has a second visit lined up with a prospective suitor.

Gallup has already visited the Washington Commanders, and now Jordan Schultz of FOX Sports is reporting the wide receiver is seeing what the Seattle Seahawks have to offer. They’re rebuilding their wide receiving corps after trading DK Metcalf to the Steelers, and Gallup could join Cooper Kupp as veteran reinforcements in the Pacific Northwest.

The third-round pick is free to sign with any NFL team, after the Las Vegas Raiders released him from the reserve/retired list earlier in the offseason. Gallup signed a one-year deal with the AFC West squad during the 2024 offseason, prior to calling it a career later that summer.

All told, it’s easy to see why teams are checking in on Gallup. The former Colorado State star has amassed 266 catches for 3,744 receiving yards and 21 touchdown catches in his career. He was as reliable as anyone in Dallas during his time in Texas, quickly becoming a nice option for Dak Prescott after entering the NFL, highlighted by his 1,107-yard and six touchdown season in 2019, where he caught 66 passes.

One year later, Gallup was considered to be a part of a three-headed monster in Dallas, alongside Amari Cooper and then-rookie CeeDee Lamb. Another big year was expected in 2021, but a torn ACL ended things yearly with just nine games played. Even so, the Cowboys decided to give Gallup a contract extension for $57.5 million over five years.

While the knee recovered from a physical standpoint, the mental aspect was something Gallup never got back on the right track. He admitted as such ahead of the 2023 season, saying he was not comfortable back on the field.

“Last year, obviously the mentals weren’t there,” Gallup said, back in July of 2023. “I knew my leg was good. I knew I was straight, but I still had to get over that little hump. … I’ve already (rebuilt the confidence). That’s why we had OTAs and all that good stuff. I definitely rebuilt it.”

Despite claiming to be back to normal, the on-field numbers never recovered with the Cowboys. Gallup posted career lows across the board in 2024, with 34 receptions on 57 targets, amassing 418 yards and two touchdowns. There was a positive to the end of his time in Dallas, as he had six receptions for 103 yards in the NFC Wild Card game against Green Bay, being the lone bright star of the season.

Perhaps the Seattle Seahawks or Washington Commanders will strike gold on the returning Michael Gallup. One thing is for sure, he wants to rewrite his narrative, and his time in the NFL might not be over.
