Cowboys legend Michael Irvin is sick and tired of watching one embarrassing playoff exit after another under the current Dallas regime. He knows the owner isn’t going anywhere, so the Hall of Fame wideout is calling for a massive coaching overhaul.

“This kind of a loss and this kind of a stench in this place can’t stay around,” Irvin declared to start his Cowboys rant on Fox Sports’ Undisputed Monday morning following the Packers loss. “You can’t sell hope to the fanbase next year with this intact as is. It’s just going to be impossible.”

Despite immense success in the regular season of late and having actually made the playoffs in years were many teams would just love to get in, the lack of success in the postseason demands a change in Irvin’s eyes.

“I know they had three 12-win seasons, but you lose two of those three playoff games in the wildcard round and one in the division round. It’s not just that you lost those games, but it’s also when you look back at how you lost those games. They were disasters, all of them.”

The latest was arguably the worst of all.

“Then you come in this place and this moment and you put that kind of performance up. Everything is supposedly in the right place, you let somebody put 48 points up. It’s hard to say ‘move forward as is.’ It’s just hard to say that.”

Michael Irvin is fed up with these infuriating playoff losses under McCarthy and believes it’s time to move on, since the core players of the team likely aren’t going anywhere.

“The best change you can make are the coaches. You can say ‘let’s get other people to see if they get other things out of the majority of the nucleus of this team that we can’t just change out.’ So yeah, it’ll be hard to say, ‘Mike McCarthy, let’s line it up, let’s try it again next year.’ No. Yesterday was a coaching spanking and something has to change.”

As for what he wants in a new coach, Irvin has one big ask: “I want discipline. That’s what we need with the Cowboys.”

And who better to provide that than arguably the greatest NFL coach of all time.

“I’ve heard people talk about Belichick. I was at first saying ‘no way, wouldn’t work here.’ But after last night, everything has changed. You can get Bill Belichick, but I’m still going to want an innovative offensive-minded coach.”

There you have it. If Michael Irvin had things his way, McCarthy would be out, perhaps Belichick would be in, but only so long as he brings a fresh and modern-minded offensive play caller.
