As speculation continues to grow around Deion Sanders and the Dallas Cowboys, Michael Irvin appeared to show where he stands. Ahead of Friday’s Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight, he said he’s speaking with Jerry Jones about Coach Prime at some point.

Rumors are swirling about a potential reunion between Sanders and the Cowboys. Dallas enters Week 11 with a 3-6 record, leading to questions about Mike McCarthy’s future as the head coach as he goes through the final year of his contract.

If the Cowboys were to make a change, though, it sounds like Irvin would fully support hiring Sanders away from Colorado. He planned to “be in Jerry’s ear” about it.

“I give him respect like I give my great guy Deion Sanders, who didn’t go the normal route – who I’m gonna be in Jerry’s ear about later,” Irvin said, while sitting next to Jones at AT&T Stadium. “That’s just something else we’re talking about.”

Colorado went 4-8 in Sanders’ first season at the helm in 2023, but the Buffs bounced back in a big way this year. They take a 7-2 record into this week’s game against Utah and are in the CFP rankings for the first time in program history. In a wide-open Big 12, CU appears to have a path to a conference title and its first-ever College Football Playoff appearance.

Deion Sanders has reportedly had ‘no official conversations’ about NFL jobs

As the rumors swirled about Deion Sanders and the NFL, FOX Sports’ Jordan Schultz reported he has had “no official conversations” about NFL openings. Sanders has said multiple times he has no intention of coaching at the next level even after his son Shedeur Sanders and two-way star Travis Hunter head to the NFL Draft this year.

But that hasn’t stopped some from wondering if Coach Prime could end up at the next level with a franchise for which he played. ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith called for Jerry Jones to hire Sanders to replace McCarthy as the Cowboys’ struggles continue.

“This brother, Prime Time Deion Sanders, and the job that he’s doing … I believe that the Dallas Cowboys should tank the rest of the season, get the No. 1 overall pick so you can draft Shedeur Sanders and, by the way, hire Prime Time Deion Sanders as your head coach for the Dallas Cowboys,” Smith said. “I think that should be Jerry Jones’ master plan. That’s right, I said it.

“Hire Prime Time Deion Sanders. You’ve gotta tank the season to make sure you can get his son as your quarterback and you move forward that way. That is what I believe the Dallas Cowboys should do.”
