Michael Thomas torches Derek Carr after pass, hit that landed Chris Olave in hospital
In the New Orleans Saints’ showdown against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, Saints wide receiver Chris Olave suffered a massive collision after attempting to go up for a ball thrown toward the middle of the field. Olave lay motionless on the ground after the hit and had to be carted off the field.
Shortly after the injury, the team provided an update, stating Olave suffered a concussion but has movement in all extremities and is being evaluated at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center. With this injury, Olave has suffered six known concussions since 2020.
Following the terrifying moment, former Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas took aim at the team’s quarterback, Derek Carr, on social media.
Thomas didn’t mince words, claiming Carr’s ball placement has been a longstanding issue and even suggesting that the former Saints staff was fired to cover up Carr’s inadequacies.
Thomas played for the Saints from 2016-23. He was released by the organization on March 13. Thomas holds the record for the most receptions by a player in a single season with 149 in 2019.
The former NFL Offensive Player of the Year isn’t only connected to Olave through their history on the Saints. They’re also both alumni of Ohio State. Olava joined the Buckeyes three years after Thomas moved on from the program.

Olave, 24, suffered a concussion in the Week 6 defeat to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He did not play in New Orleans’ next game against the Denver Broncos on Thursday Night Football. Olave returned last Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers, hauling in eight receptions for 107 yards.
At one point during the game, he took a shoulder to his helmet area and came out to be evaluated for a concussion. He returned to play in the rest of the game.
On Thursday, Chris Olave said he was considering wearing a Guardian Cap moving forward. He wore the Guardian Cap at Wednesday’s practice, which NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said reduces concussions by 52%. However, Olave was not wearing the Guardian Cap on Sunday.
He came into the game as the Saints’ leading receiver with 31 receptions for 387 yards and a score in seven games.
