Mike Evans: 'This is the best receiver room I've been around'

Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Mike Evans had high praise for his wide receiver teammates earlier this week. With the season opener, against the Dallas Cowboys, around the corner, Evans paid his respect to the receiver room. A receiver room littered with many of the faces that helped him become a Super Bowl champion.

Mike Evans hopeful for 2021 season

As a unit, Tampa Bay had one of the best receiving corps in the 2020 season. Led by Evans, they look to repeat their efforts for last season. And, Evans believes it to be an even better group of wide receivers in his eighth year of NFL service.

“This is the best receiver room I’ve been around, top to bottom,” Evans said, per the Tampa Bay Times. 

That’s large statement considering his wide receiver room last season featured him, Chris Godwin, Antonio Brown, and Scotty Miller. But, Evans’ praise will only instill confidence in a position group skewing a bit younger. They added pieces while keeping veterans like Antonio Brown and Chris Godwin in the fold.

They tagged Godwin for $15.9 million in March. Yet, they were unable to reach a long-term deal before the deadline, meaning he’ll hit free agency in 2022. Unless he’s tagged again or they reach a new deal before free agency in March; meanwhile, they re-signed Brown to a one-year deal worth just over $3 million

Jaelon Darden, a rookie drafted in the fourth round, caught 31 touchdowns in his final two seasons at North Texas. Additionally, Scott Miller, who came into his own last season in his sophomore year, looks to continue to improve. Last season, he caught 33 of 53 targets for 501 yards and three touchdowns.

Also at their disposal, they return undrafted sophomore (6-4) Josh Pearson and 2020 fifth-round pick (6-1) Tyler Johnson. They also bring in quarterback-turned-wide receiver (6-4) Travis Jonsen and speedster Cyril Grayson.

Brady likes em big

Apparently, seven-time champion, Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady has a definite type and Bruce Arians commended him on his selections

“There are certain things he likes. He likes really good, big, fast receivers,” Arians said, via Pro Football Talk.

Brady has plenty of those types of receivers at his disposal. He also has a variety of other from the big and fast outside threat in Evans to the do-it-all type in Godwin to the shifter types in Brown and Miller along with a ton of younger options ready to make their name if given the opportunity.

Perhaps, that varied amount of talent and skill set led Evans to make his comment in the first place.
