Ahead of Tuesday’s cut deadline, the NFL placed Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Mike Hall on the commissioner’s exempt list. The decision comes after the former Ohio State star’s arrest for domestic violence earlier this month.

Hall is entering his rookie season with the Browns after being selected in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft. By going on the commissioner’s exempt list, he will not count against Cleveland’s 53-man roster and cannot attend practices or games. He can be present in the training facility.

Hall was arrested for allegedly threatening his fiancee with a gun, according to ESPN. Police were called to his Avon residence on the night of Aug. 12 and he was arrested Aug. 14. A hearing is set for Sept. 10.

After his arraignment, Hall continued to practice with the Browns. He suffered a neck injury during a joint practice with the Minnesota Vikings just one day after his arrest.

Hall spent three years at Ohio State, where he was a key member of the Buckeyes’ defensive line. He was a two-time Third Team All-Big Ten selection during that time. After the Browns selected him in the draft, he appeared in two preseason games and totaled two tackles before suffering an injury in practice.

After Mike Hall’s arrest, Browns coach Kevin Stefanski declined to comment on details of the situation. He told reporters he couldn’t say much and would let the process go along.

“Respectfully, I don’t have much to add,” Stefanski said, via ESPN’s Daniel Oyefusi. “I’m going to let legal proceedings play out. I understand you’ve got some questions, but I really don’t have much on that.”

Hall appeared in 28 games at Ohio State across his three seasons with the Buckeyes, making 11 starts. He finished his career with 45 tackles, 10 tackles for loss and 6.0 sacks. His best year came in 2023 when he started six games, finishing the season with 24 tackles before preparing for the draft.

Hall played high school football at Streetsboro (OH), where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 61 overall recruit from the 2021 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
