As the season draws to an end, the outside noise regarding Mike McCarthy continues to grow. McCarthy is finding success with the Dallas Cowboys down the stretch but still does not have a contract moving forward. At some point, a decision will have to be made and it’s a massive storyline following the team.

Even so, McCarthy is finding a way to ignore the conversation about his future. Everyone in Dallas has maintained the most important thing is winning, even as the Cowboys were eliminated from the playoffs on Sunday. McCarthy just wants to keep business as usual through the season finale against the Washington Commanders.

“I believe in time and place and this isn’t the time or place,” McCarthy said via The Athletic‘s Jon Machota on X. “… I’m more focused on (the rest of the team/coaches). It benefits everybody for me just to stay on course.”

These comments from McCarthy come a day after taking down Tampa Bay on Sunday Night Football, making it four wins in five games for the Cowboys. Despite dealing with some massive injuries — Dak Prescott and Trevon Diggs most notably — Dallas has been playing really well down the stretch.

People inside the organization are quite impressed too. Nobody was happier with the Buccaneers win than Jerry Jones, having high praise for the job McCarthy is doing, despite not wanting to discuss the potential future.

“Just so we’re clear, all I can say is what good of a job he’s doing,” Jones said Sunday night. “I don’t have thoughts that I would share as to anything about what we do with our days after we’re through playing this year. I don’t have anything I would share about that.”

Two NFC East divisional matchups remain for the Cowboys. Sunday will see them head to Philadelphia for a bitter rivalry matchup against the Eagles before hosting Washington to close out the year. Nothing is at stake but if nothing else, there is an opportunity to play spoiler.

Once things go final from AT&T Stadium, McCarthy will be a little more comfortable discussing where he stands with the organization. He is certainly hoping to have two more wins under his belt and finish with nine wins – potentially adding to his case to return for the 2025 season.
