Mike McCarthy, Dak Prescott silence critics after 'a lot of talking' following 49ers loss
The Dallas Cowboys stymied the criticism on Monday night with a gritty 20-17 win over the Los Angeles Chargers on the road. Following the loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Week 5, Mike McCarthy, Dak Prescott, and the entire team were eager to once again silence critics by righting the ship as they did after Week 3.
It wasn’t the prettiest outing but the Cowboys are now 4-2, and just one loss behind the Eagles and 49ers.
“A lot of talking this week,” McCarthy said after the game, via ESPN. “So they’ve been quiet. They worked hard … I just loved their resilience and fight, and we came out on top.”
“Crazy weekend in the NFL, but we were on the right side of it this week,” he added. “And you know how fast that can change.”
Dallas is one of eight teams with four or more wins mid-way through the month of October. The last nine times the Cowboys have started the season with a 4-2 record, they’ve made the playoffs seven times.
“It’s early in the season but 4-2 or 3-3, it’s a huge difference. Yeah, it just is,” Prescott said. “Yeah … it’s early in the season. I’ve been in a 3-5 season that we turned around and went on a win streak and won the division … but 4-2, second road win of the year, against a great team, against a great offense, great defense.”
Micah Parsons notches timely sack for Cowboys
The game could have easily gone the other way for the Chargers late if not for Micah Parsons finally breaking through for his first sack of the night against Justin Herbert. The sack moved the Chargers to 3rd-and-10 and led to Justin Herbert tossing a risky pass to the outstretched arms of corner Stephon Gilmore to seal it for Dallas.

“Anytime I get an opportunity in the game, I’m waiting for them,” Parsons said. “I feel like that’s my moment. That’s what my teammates are looking for me the most. It feels good to come up big for them.”
The Cowboys get a break now for Week 7 but when they return to action, it’s against the 3-3 Rams. Then they’ll travel to face the Philadelphia Eagles. Resilience will be key in both matchups.
“We haven’t had close game, but this is what the NFL is about,” Prescott said after the win. “That’s all I said is we’ve got to get used to this. We’ve got to stay confident in this, understand that these close games, one-score, field goal games, touchdown games, we’ve got to believe in ourselves, finishing it on our terms with the ball in our hands and thankful for our defense right there getting us that ball.”
Coming off his worst game against the 49ers, Prescott finished the win against L.A. with 312 total yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. He also took five sacks but led the team in rushing.
