Mike McCarthy, Dak Prescott speak out about Dallas Cowboys finishing with losing record
The Dallas Cowboys are certain to finish below .500 now after Sunday’s loss at Philadelphia. The members of the franchise are just as frustrated about that as anyone considering how this season has gone.
Following the 41-7 loss to the Eagles this afternoon, Mike McCarthy and Dak Prescott both spoke about Dallas’ season. McCarthy went away from the question while Prescott went right at it based on their expectations coming in.
“I’m here to finish the race,” McCarthy said of the Cowboys with one game to go against the Washington Commanders. “That’s my mindset and that’s the team’s mindset.”
“Nobody plans to lose. Nobody plans to have a losing season. You expect playoffs every year. You expect to win this division,” said Prescott. “It sucks. It’s frustrating.”
Today’s loss, their third-largest of the season, means Dallas will finish under .500 for the first time since McCarthy’s tenure there began in 2020 as they’d finished at 12-5 in each of the last three seasons.

That comes with the Cowboys taking a huge step back on both sides of the ball. After their offense had been top-five, including finishing first twice, and their defense had been top-ten, including consecutive top-five finishes, in each of the last three years in averaging 29.5 ppg. and allowing 19.9, Dallas is scoring only 20.7 ppg. on offense and is giving up 27.8 (30th) on defense in 2024.
Injuries have also completely impacted the Cowboys as this season has gone on. Prescott along with Demarcus Lawrence, Zack Martin, DeMarvion Overshown, Trevon Diggs, and CeeDee Lamb will all end this season unhealthy or on injured reserve while Micah Parsons, among others, also missed a handful of games.
This season was expected to be much better for Dallas after yet another disappointing loss in the postseason last year. Instead, they won’t be making the playoffs at all after being eliminated last weekend as they’ll now be finishing with their worst record in four years.
