Mike McCarthy future: Other teams could have Dallas Cowboys coach on radar, per report
Mike McCarthy and the Dallas Cowboys might have to come to a new agreement after the season if he’s going to return to the sideline in 2025.
If he doesn’t come back though, he could be elsewhere and it seems like other teams already have him on their radar, according to Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer. McCarthy previously was the head coach of the Green Bay Packers and could be on a third sideline as a head coach come next season.
Still, it’s all up in the air and only if McCarthy is not re-signed by Dallas.
“Mike McCarthy, actually him and all the coaches, their contracts expire in two weeks,” Glazer said on FOX NFL Sunday. “So Jerry Jones is going to sit down with him, obviously, probably, the week after the season ends there. But if they decide not to do something with Mike McCarthy, McCarthy is actually on other team’s coaching list. If the Cowboys decide not to re-sign him.”
McCarthy, without starting quarterback Dak Prescott, now CeeDee Lamb, and a plethora of other problems this season, actually is 6-8 through 14 games.

The get up in the Cowboys late in the season might’ve impressed the brass.
NFL insider Albert Breer revealed the latest on the situation after Thursday Night Football, saying nothing has been decided. However, Jerry and Stephen Jones do like how the Cowboys have played in the latter half of the season, picking up a few wins. Last Sunday especially, beating Tampa Bay despite having nothing to gain.
“I know a lot of people have speculated on Mike McCarthy’s job status,” Breer said. “No decision has been made by the Cowboys yet on what they’re going to do after the year. Of course, McCarthy’s contract is up. But I can say the Joneses are very impressed with the effort that McCarthy’s team has put forth for its coach the last couple weeks, and in particular last week against the Buccaneers after they were eliminated.”
Jerry Jones himself has publicly spoken highly of the job McCarthy has done down the stretch.
“Just so we’re clear, all I can say is what good of a job he’s doing,” Jones said. “I don’t have thoughts that I would share as to anything about what we do with our days after we’re through playing this year. I don’t have anything I would share about that.”
