Mike McDaniel addresses viral video of him possibly vaping mid-game
Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel has addressed the viral video which appeared to show him vaping on the sideline during his team’s AFC Wild Card Round defeat to the Buffalo Bills this past season.
Joining the “Pardon My Take” podcast with Dan “Big Cat” Katz, McDaniel aimed to clear up any confusion, but only provided more of it with his answer.
“What? Vaping? Like water vape?” McDaniel asked Katz. “Hmm, what a confusing question. I don’t know this technology you guys speak of. Having said that, I will leave you with this. In past lives, I have vaped. Regardless, just the idea of that being something that people are talking about after a playoff game is annoying enough to provoke me to never do it again and I’ve since quit, classic McDaniel style, cold turkey, just like alcohol.
“But I, you know, as far as a game, you know, I’m sorry I wish I was better schooled on the subject. I just don’t totally know what you guys are talking about.”

The viral video showed McDaniel pressing his hands near his face with smoke, or his breath due to the chilly weather, emerging from his mouth. Unfortunately, McDaniel’s winter gloves shielded whatever device that may have been present. With McDaniel deflecting, it’s likely we’ll never get to the bottom of this mystery.
Mike McDaniel dodges question about Dalvin Cook
McDaniel has been in a deflecting mood lately, as during Thursday’s media session, reporters attempted to get a response from him on the Dolphins’ possible interest in Dalvin Cook. The Minnesota Vikings officially released the star running back Friday, and Miami, where Cook grew up, has been rumored to be a possible landing spot. McDaniel answered the question in a creative way, albeit without giving anything away.
“March 6, 1983, the day I was born, right? Now we take a closer look at that date and that in fact was not yesterday,” McDaniel said. “Okay, so people that are rumored to be tall, short, people that are rumored to be, you’re not going to get this guy. I’m Year Two. Okay? What I am excited about is talking about the most important thing which is the third day of veteran minicamp. And we’ve got a lot of guys that are good players that have an opportunity to get better. Answer your question?”
