Mike McDaniel confirms Dolphins offer for wide receiver free agent Odell Beckham Jr.
Amid yet another round of free agency, veteran wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has at least one intriguing offer on the table. After visiting the Miami Dolphins last week, the former LSU first-rounder picked up a contract offer from the team, head coach Mike McDaniel confirmed.
However, as the team has not yet announced a signing, Beckham may be considering other options or simply continuing negotiations. McDaniel wouldn’t “look into a crystal ball” but told reporters on Monday at the annual league meetings in Orlando that he’d enjoy coaching the former Giants star.
“We did make him an offer,” McDaniel said. “He’s had a phenomenal career and he has really good football ahead of him, so he has options. Business takes time, but I would enjoy coaching him.”
Beckham is looking for a new home for his 11th season in the league. He became a free agent on March 13 when his contract with the Ravens expired and he’s now free to sign with the team of his choice for the 2024 season.
Beckham says goodbye to Baltimore
When he joined the Ravens, Beckham inked for one year and $15 million. He is likely looking to land a deal in a similar range from the Dolphins or any other team of interest. Last week, the wideout posted his goodbye to Baltimore, which made it clear he wouldn’t be returning.
“Swea on everything I appreciate the Flock more than yall could EVER imagine,” Beckham wrote on Instagram. “Did everything I could wit the opportunities I had. Wish I got to do it big for yall. Thank you for the Vibez! To the City of Baltimore I fxck wit yall forever FRRRR [for real]. And most importantly to my brothers over there this shxt a lifetime sentence, I love yall! BiggestTruzzz.”
In 2023, Beckham got back over the 500-yard mark for the first time in three seasons. He played 14 regular season games for the Ravens, tallying 35 catches with three touchdowns. In two postseason games, the former Giants star added four receptions for 34 yards, two catches went for first downs. The 2024 season will be his 11th in the league. He didn’t play in 2022 while rehabbing from his 2021 ACL tear.
The Miami Dolphins went 11-6 during the regular season last year but lost to the Super Bowl champion Chiefs in the first round of the playoffs. They had two receivers surpass 1,000 yards in the regular season – Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. Hill ended the year as the league’s top receiver with 1,799 yards.
Miami has made a number of moves throughout free agency, however, they’ve not signed an additional wide receiver yet. They did add two tight ends in Jonnu Smith and Jody Fortson.

The NFL 2024 calendar year begins at 4 p.m. ET on March 13. At that time, contracts running through 2023 officially run out, making those players free agents. Prior to the beginning of free agency, teams will have a chance to designate one franchise or transition tag player, starting on Feb. 20 at 4 p.m. ET and ending on March 5. Beginning March 11 through March 13 teams can enter into a legal negotiation with players who will become unrestricted free agents.
In addition to NFL free agency, the new year also marks the beginning of all trades being made official by the league office. April 19 marks the deadline to sign restricted free agents to offer sheets. On April 24, the deadline for teams to match restricted free agent offers sheets hits. Following the restricted free agent deadline follows the 2024 NFL Draft, which runs from April 25-27.
