Mike Tannenbaum makes emphatic case for New York Giants to acquire Matthew Stafford

Despite disagreement today on ‘Get Up’, Mike Tannenbaum suggested the New York Giants be the team that makes a move for QB Matthew Stafford.
When asked about Stafford’s chances of being traded, Tannenbaum said the Giants should certainly be involved. Acquiring him would be their way, in his opinion, of setting things in a new direction after the past half decade or so.
“1,000%,” said Tannanbaum. “If I’m Joe Schoen and I get (Les Snead), the GM of the Rams, on the phone, I am not getting off the phone until Matt Stafford is a Giant. He would absolutely transform the narrative from Daniel Jones this, Saquon Barkley that. You go back to last year? They were moribund. They were awful. I didn’t go to Wesleyan but they weren’t very good.”
“All I’d say is, if I’m the Giants? By getting Matthew Stafford, I am changing the narrative of this franchise immediately,” Tannenbaum said. “I’m not saying we’re going to the Super Bowl but he would be a stabilizing force – something they desperately need.”
Stafford is apparently available on the market with the LA Rams giving his reps permission to speak with other franchises. That’s after his fourth season in Los Angeles where he posted 3,762 passing yards, 20 touchdowns, and eight interceptions on 65.8% completion, which helped the Rams to another playoff appearance where they lost in the NFC Divisional.
Per reporting, including this morning by Kimberley Martin and Field Yates on ‘Get Up’, the Giants could be involved along with the Las Vegas Raiders, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Cleveland Browns. A return to Los Angeles would also still be in play if he and the franchise agree on a re-worked deal.
That’s where the debate began against Tannenbaum. For Yates, he felt the Raiders were a much better choice for Stafford if he were to leave the Rams.

“I do think there’s some appeal and some allure to the Raiders that the Giants simply do not offer,” said Yates. “If we are entertaining the possibility of not being with the Los Angeles Rams and my options are the Raiders or the Giants, maybe somewhere else? I don’t think it’s close that I’d rather be in Las Vegas over New York – talking about all the factors that you guys dove into.”
Mike Greenberg and Damien Woody, although much more critical of New York, agreed with Yates.
“Look, I mean, I’m all for people getting as much leverage as they possibly can. Matt Stafford can’t seriously want to go to the Giants,” Greenberg said. “I don’t mean this as disrespectfully as that sounds. But, I mean, Field Yates kind of brought up some of the options. You’re going to a wind tunnel, behind a terrible offensive line, on a team that was just awful last year, where the coach and the general manager’s careers are basically on hanging by a thread in that market. They’re in a ridiculously competitive division. I’m all for trying to drum up leverage but, if you’re Matt Stafford, that can’t possibly be, right now, anywhere near the top of your list, can it?”
“No way I would want to play for the New York Football Giants. The New York Football Giants are a disaster,” added Woody. “What happens if things doesn’t go your way? That whole regime could be out and then you could be in a situation where now you’ve got a whole new regime coming in. I don’t want any part of that instability if I’m Matthew Stafford.”
Several franchises could get involved here if Stafford can be had in a trade. ESPN disagreed, though, on whether the Giants should be one who will.
