Mike Tannenbaum sheds light on potential Giants drama with Shedeur Sanders draft decision

Former NFL GM turned ESPN analyst Mike Tannenbaum had an interesting take on Shedeur Sanders and the New York Giants. It was recently reported by Adam Schefter that Sanders will hold a private workout in Boulder that Giants officials will attend.
New York holds the No. 3 pick in the NFL Draft, which is a little more than a week away. Tannenbaum suggested that holding a workout this late in the process means there could potentially be a disagreement in the front office on whether they should take the Colorado QB. Either that, or the team learned something new about Sanders it wants to see.
“When this happens so late in the process either there’s a big disagreement in their building on their evaluation or their reacting to new information,” Tannenbaum wrote on X.
ESPN draft expert Mel Kiper Jr. currently does not have Sanders going to the Giants, instead predicting him to go ninth overall to the New Orleans Saints in his lastest mock. In fact, Kiper doesn’t have New York taking a quarterback at all. He thinks the team will take Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter.
The Giants signed veteran quarterback Russell Wilson to a one-year contract this offseason, so there is a legitimate question of whether it will take another quarterback this early or focus on other needs. After making the playoffs his first season as coach in 2022, Brian Daboll went a combined 9-25 over the past two years, so the pressure is on to win right now.

Sanders, the son of Colorado coach and Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, is coming off of a two-year career with the Buffaloes. He led the country with a 74% completion percentage this past season while also leading the Big 12 with 4,134 yards passing and 37 touchdowns to 10 interceptions.
Shedeur Sanders is not the only quarterback the Giants will work out this week. The others, Jalen Milroe and Tyler Shough, are prospects whom the team could potentially get much later in the draft, allowing them to focus on more pressing needs early on.
Regardless, the fact that they are holding a workout for Sanders at least shows that they are still seriously considering taking him — be that at No. 3 or potentially trading up from the No. 34 pick. We’ll have to wait and see what happens when the draft begins on April 24.
