Mike Tomlin has been the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers since the 2007 season, and he has seen a ton of success during that stretch.

Recently, Tomlin joined the Rich Eisen Show, where he addressed how much longer he intends to coach the Steelers. Tomlin didn’t give a specific timeline, but he said that the job is still something that fires him up every day.

“I love what I do,” Tomlin said. “So I’m singularly focused in that way. I hear some of that chit chatter, but it doesn’t move my needle. The challenges that this job holds does and it does continually. I’m fired up each and every day and I’m just thankful to have the opportunity to have to compete in the ultimate competitor’s league.”

In 15 years with the Steelers, Tomlin has coached to a 154-85-2 career regular season record. Pittsburgh won the Super Bowl in 2008 after a 12-4 regular season and made it back to the Super Bowl in 2010 after again going 12-4.

Since the Steelers hired Tomlin as their head coach, they have been one of the most consistent organizations in the entire NFL in terms of winning. Under Tomlin, the Steelers have never finished below .500, and have finished above .500 in 12 of his 15 seasons.

Tomlin enters a new era of Steelers football without Ben Roethlisberger

When Tomlin leads the Steelers out to start the 2022 season, he will be doing so without longtime quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. With Roethlisberger now retired, the Steelers are moving forward with a new leader of the offense.

The Steelers signed Mitch Trubisky in free agency and drafted Kenny Pickett in the 2022 NFL Draft, and the two will join Mason Rudolph in the quarterback room in Pittsburgh. As Tomlin prepares to decide on a new starting quarterback, he is embracing competition in the room.

“I expect it to be fierce, because I know all three guys,” said Tomlin. “I don’t expect anyone to take a backseat. The challenge is, from a structure standpoint, are we providing enough of a platform for all the guys to show what they’re capable of? And so that’s going to be the challenge component of it.

“I’m excited about watching these guys compete, just like I am at any position where you’ve got some viable options. So we’ll proceed with that understanding that it’s going to be challenging from an organization standpoint, but it’s a good challenge and I’m excited about watching those guys perform.”
