Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin decline to discuss any nitty gritty details regarding Aaron Rodgers. However, he mentioned the team had “really productive” conversations with the future Hall of Fame quarterback, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

“We feel good about our plan at the position,” Tomlin said, via Rapoport. “I understand the angst in your community and the community that supports us.”

So far, it’s been “will they or won’t they” when it comes to Rodgers and the Steelers. Pittsburgh is seemingly his only option as a free agent at this time if he wants to play in 2025.

On The Pat McAfee Show, the Super Bowl champion quarterback said he has spoken to Steelers head Tomlin multiple times. However, no deal has been signed.

“Listen, this entire time I haven’t felt like I owed somebody any decision at some point,” Rodgers said. “… I’ve been upfront with them about that. If you need to move on, call me, by all means. … There’s been no deadline. And yeah, I’ve talked to Mike (Tomlin) many times.”

Rodgers was then asked if he will play for the Steelers if he decided to return to the NFL. He’s contemplated retirement as well.

“I am trying to be open to everything and not specifically attached to anything when it comes to this decision,” Rodgers explained. “I’m not holding anybody hostage – I really want to emphasize that. … I’m just going through a lot in my personal life that has to take precedence at this point. … At the same time, I want to keep the lines of communication open.”

Rodgers met with the Steelers in March, and Tomlin talked about having a deadline for the four-time NFL MVP to sign with the club when asked. Clearly, there isn’t one.

“Not to my knowledge,” Tomlin said at the time, per Mike DeFabo of The Athletic. “You know, I don’t know that we’ve approached it from a deadline perspective. Certainly, as I mentioned, you’d like to have settled circumstances. But, you know, deadlines don’t often bring that to a head.”

The Steelers are looking for a starting QB since Justin Fields and Russell Wilson have signed with the New York Jets and New York Giants, respectively. One reason a deal has not been done as of this writing is that Rodgers said he’s dealing with a lot of personal stuff, which has led to him not rushing to make a decision.

Through the first five rounds of the NFL Draft, the Steelers also did not address the QB position. They were a notable team that passed on Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders, who eventually went to the Cleveland Browns.
