Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin shared updates about his recent meeting with Aaron Rodgers. While speaking to reporters on Sunday, Tomlin said the team had a “really good day” with the Super Bowl champion quarterback when he visited the Steelers, according to Brooke Pryor of ESPN. Rodgers left without a contract, and Tomlin was asked if there was a deadline for the Steelers to sign him.

“Not to my knowledge,” he said, per Mike DeFabo of The Athletic. “You know, I don’t know that we’ve approached it from a deadline perspective. Certainly, as I mentioned, you’d like to have settled circumstances. But, you know, deadlines don’t often bring that to a head.”

Mike Tomlin was also asked if he had talked to Aaron Rodgers about his timeline for his decision. “I really wanted to spend more of our time just getting to know him better, things that he values as a player and a man, & what he might be looking for with his next stop,” Tomlin said.

What if the Steelers don’t sign Aaron Rodgers?

While Rodgers isn’t the same player when he was winning multiple MVP awards, he would give the Steelers a short-term answer at the quarterback position since they lost Russell Wilson and Justin Fields to free agency. Currently, Pittsburgh has two quarterbacks on the roster — Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson.

But what if Rodgers doesn’t sign with the Steelers? Is there a Plan B? “I don’t know if we are identifying anything as Plan A, Plan B or Plan C. We’re just simply looking at the field of available people, whether it’s free agency or the draft, and making decisions & gathering information accordingly,” Tomlin stated.

Whether the Steelers sign Rodgers or not, Tolimn suggested the team could take a quarterback in the draft. “Omar [Khan] and I just got off on a nice tour here last week, where we were at ND, Ohio State and Texas, for example, our last three trips,” he said. “I think all three of those institutions have quarterbacks that are draft eligible.”

Aaron Rodgers spent the last two seasons with the New York Jets after spending 18 years with the Green Bay Packers. Along with winning four MVP awards, Rodgers led the Packers to a Super Bowl title during the 2010 season.
