Mike Tomlin shares update on injured Steelers Troy Fautanu, Cory Trice Jr., Roman Wilson and Jaylen Warren
Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin just shared an injury update on some key players before the team takes on the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. Per Teresa Varley of Steelers.com, Tomlin said that offensive lineman Troy Fautanu, cornerback Cory Trice Jr., wide receiver Roman Wilson and running back Jaylen Warren worked in practice this week and believes they will all be available for the first game of the year this weekend.
Fautanu is dealing with a knee injury and Wilson is recovering from an ankle injury. Warren, who was seen working out on the practice field this week, is dealing with a hamstring injury, and Trice is working through a groin injury.
In April, the Steelers selected Fautanu in the first round of the draft. He missed most of the preseason due to the injury, and it was tough for him since he was making the move from left to right tackle.
“I’ve got no choice,” Fautanu said, per Steelers.com. “I can sit there and wish and hope my life away about wanting to have played in these last couple of preseason games, but that’s not how the cards unfolded. I’m just making sure I’m prepared and preparing myself for anything that comes.”

Mike Tomlin explains why Russell Wilson is Steelers’ starting QB
The Steelers will need all the help they can get as the Falcons made some big moves in free agency and the draft to build a potential contender in the NFC. Steelers fans will be interested to see how the offense looks with Russell Wilson under center since he was named the starting QB over Justin Fields.
Before Tomlin shared his injury update, the team announced their captains for the 2024 season. Wilson was named a captain along with defensive lineman Cam Heyward, linebacker T.J. Watt and safety Miles Killebrew.
“Russ’ resume is a unique one in terms of lift and success, and that tends to play a factor in the decision-making, but not from a decision-maker’s perspective,” Tomlin said about Wilson last week, per ESPN. “It’s just the fruit of his labor. He’s seen a lot and done a lot, and I think it was reflected in the way he played and conducted himself.”
