The Carolina Panthers released their full injury report on Wednesday heading into their matchup with the New Orleans Saints. Week 1 is rapidly approaching, and the franchise has a number of injuries they’ll have to deal with. One of the most important is running back Miles Sanders. He’s had to deal with a finger injury.

According to a report from Steve Reed of the Associated Press, Sanders injured his finger when he hit it on a helmet and had it wrapped in the locker room. He said he’s going to get it look at by the medical staff, but feels like it should be fine. “Sucks this happened before Week 1,” Sanders said.

Here’s the full injury report for the game below.

Panthers tackle Yosuah Nijman was a limited practice participant on Wednesday, he’s dealing with a tibia injury. Carolina tight end Ian Thomas has been dealing with a calf issue. He was listed on Wednesday’s report as did not practice. Also not practicing on Wednesday, Panthers tight end Tommy Tremble has been dealing with back/hamstring issues.

The Saints are dealing with a number of issues on their injury report. New Orleans linebacker Pete Werner has a shoulder injury that made him a limited practice participant on Wednesday. Linebacker Willie Gay, Jr. has a back issue. He was also limited in practice. Corner Marshon Lattimore has a hip injury. He was also listed as limited. Then guard Nick Saldiveri has a calf issue. He was limited in Wednesday’s practice too.

Linebacker Jaylan Ford (hamstring), tight end Dallin Holker (ankle), linebacker D’Marco Jackson (calf), and defensive tackle Khalen Saunders (calf) all did not practice at all on Wednesday for the Saints.

The Panthers enter 2024 with a renewed sense of optimism after bringing in former Tampa Bay offensive coordinator Dave Canales as their head coach. The hope is that the offensive line improves, and Canales can help the offense and Bryce Young make a big jump in his second year with the franchise. After all, Canales did help guide Baker Mayfield to a career year last season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Panthers’ rookie RB Jonathon Brooks is nearly ready to play

One key offensive weapon that isn’t listed on the Panthers’ injury report is rookie running back Jonathon Brooks. He was one of the most explosive backs in the 2024 NFL Draft class. If it weren’t for a torn ACL last year with Texas, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported he would have been selected in the first round. Panthers head coach Dave Canales has said that Week 3 or Week 4 would be “great” for Brooks return.

Before he tore his ACL with the Longhorns, Brooks had already racked up over 1,300 all-purpose yards and 11 total touchdowns in his final season there. He figures to be a major offensive weapon in the Carolina offensive attack this year and beyond.
