The Tigers enter this season ranked amongst the top dozen in the nation. This comes after a breakout fourth season under Eli Drinkwitz in 2023 where they went 11-2. In their three seasons of the tenure before that, they were 17-19 overall.
Now, Missouri returns several starters from an offense that averaged 32.5 ppg. as a Top-30 unit in the country. That collection includes QB Brady Cook and essentially all of their top receivers led by WR Luther Burden in the pass game. They just must now replace portions of their defense, including DC Blake Baker.
Murray State will come to CoMo to start its first season under a new head coach in Jody Wright. They’ll do so after posting just a 2-9 record last fall, including losing their final seven and nine of their last ten, after four years under Dean Hood.
Missouri is one of a handful of teams expecting to make the College Football Playoff out of the SEC. Those hopes begin on Thursday later this week when they’ll be a favorite by nearly 50 points to start out at 1-0.
