If there’s one thing about American sports fans, it’s that a good chunk of them love fantasy football. And over the years, plenty of people have gotten more and more creative with their punishments in their league for the last place finisher.

And unfortunately for Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Chris Bassitt, he had to deal with finishing last in his fantasy league. And on Saturday, he had to be the bat boy for the team, wearing his 4-10 overall record on the back of his jersey as punishment.

The real question the people need to know is who exactly did Bassitt draft on his team? It’s good that he’s being a good sport about it and following through with his punishment.

He had to wear the jersey during the Blue Jays’ spring training matchup against the New York Yankees on Saturday. Bassitt is entering his third season with the Toronto franchise. Last year, he went 10-14 with a 4.16 ERA and 168 strikeouts.

The funny thing about Bassitt’s college career, was that he was actually recruited to play college basketball. But instead, he enrolled at Akron, where he suited up for the Akron Zips baseball team. In 2011, his junior year, he earned a 1.42 ERA, limiting batters to a .183 batting average against. Bassitt earned second team All-MAC honors.

During his MLB career, he’s spent time with the Chicago White Sox (2014), Oakland Athletics (2015-2016, 2016-2021), New York Mets (2022), and Toronto Blue Jays (2023-present).

On May 27, 2021, Bassitt threw his first career complete game in the Oakland A’s matchup against the Los Angeles Angels. He allowed just two hits while striking out nine batters in a 5-0 win. On August 17th, 2021, Bassitt was struck in the face by a line drive and left the game on a motorized stretcher. He would eventually return to the mound on Sept. 23, 2021.

On December 16th, 2022, Bassitt signed a three-year, $63 million contract with the Toronto Blue Jays. In May of 2023, he threw a complete-game shutout, his first with the Blue Jays franchise. Bassitt only allowed two hits in the game. Later that year, he was nominated for the All-MLB Team. His 21 wins in 2023 earned him the title of AL wins leader that season.

For his career thus far, Bassitt has a win-loss record of 71-55 with an ERA of 3.61, while throwing 997 total strikeouts.
