Myles Garrett sends warning shot to Mac Jones
Myles Garrett of the Cleveland Browns has a reputation for looking ahead to specific quarterbacks he plays against, and Mac Jones is no exception. As the Browns get ready to take on the New England Patriots, Garrett admitted he was looking forward to getting his hands on the rookie quarterback.
Myles Garrett on facing rookie Mac Jones
“It could be a rookie receiver, a running back, a tight end, a quarterback, it doesn’t matter,” Garrett said. “I want to get my hands on him and show him that things are different on this level. I want to show him that it’s all fun and games, but these guys are real out here, especially in Cleveland.”
The All-Pro defensive end made fun news earlier in the season by decorating his house for Halloween with a warning to the league. In front of his home he put out tombstones for quarterbacks around the NFL, including the rookie Mac Jones. Garrett will get his chance to go after Jones on Sunday.
Despite his desire to welcome Jones to Cleveland Browns football, Garrett knows that it won’t be so simple with New England on the field.
“[Bill] Belichick is full of tricks,” Garrett continued about the matchup with New England’s head coach. “I’m sure we’ll go out there and think it’s going to be run on first and second down, and then they’ll start throwing the ball everywhere or start screening or whatever it is.”

Garrett chasing history
The former No. 1 overall pick out of Texas A&M leads the NFL with 12 sacks this season already. With two more sacks, Garrett will tie the single-season franchise record for the Browns at 14. The current record has stood since Reggie Camp set it in 1984.
Garrett recorded his career high of 13.5 sacks in 2018 and has flirted with the record every season so far. In 2019, Garrett had ten sacks in ten games before ending his season early with a suspension for hitting Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph with his helmet. COVID-19 complicated the 2020 season, but Garrett still managed 12 sacks in only 14 games last year.
With his early career loaded with sacks already, it seems like a matter of time before Garrett is locked into the Browns’ franchise history books.
