Najee Harris says Steelers need to be 'more disciplined' and 'more committed'

The Pittsburgh Steelers fell to the Buffalo Bills in the Wild Card round of the playoffs. It was a frustrating loss that left players like running back Najee Harris looking for answers and change within the team building.

Harris did not say that he wanted a coaching change. In fact, he wasn’t specific about what kind of changes he thinks need to happen. However, he does feel in-house changes need to come to Pittsburgh.

Najee Harris said, “If we want to elevate and get where we are and achieve those goals that we want, we have to change some in-house stuff.”

While Harris didn’t want to make a comment about any of the coaches in particular, there have been rumors about head coach Mike Tomlin moving forward. In particular, there have been rumors surrounding his contract situation and whether he and the Steelers may part ways at some point.

“It’s just the rules that are in the building. We got to be more disciplined. We got to be more committed. I’m not saying that we’re not, but just coming from a place that has structure and just seeing we probably could get help in these areas. It might make a change. I think that that’s something we could help. I’m not saying nothing about coaches or anything like that,” Harris said.

“I’m just saying more of just in-house rules. I’m just a player, but the guys in that building know what I’m talking about.”

The Steelers offense was one of the team’s biggest issues this season. Those issues extended into the Wild Card round of the playoffs when the Steelers scored 17 points in their loss to the Bills. In the loss, Najee Harris carried the ball 12 times for only 37 yards.

Najee Harris credits Mike Tomlin with ‘carrying’ Steelers to 10 wins

Despite the struggles that Pittsburgh faced this season, the Steelers still got to 10 wins and made an appearance in the playoffs. That success is something that Najee Harris believes goes back to head coach Mike Tomlin.

“To get 10 wins is good for the team, but also Mike T,” Harris said. “Just a good coach. He’s been carrying us along this whole year. I think that it really showed how resilient and how calm he always is, even when stuff looks bad. A lot of negative stuff being said, and he always just stays the same person. So, happy for Mike T and the team.”
