The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series will race at Bristol tonight, but there will be a bit of a twist in the first 30 laps. Without practice or qualifying today due to rain, NASCAR is going to have a competition caution on or around Lap 30 tonight. This is fairly standard for these situations.

A competition caution allows for the race to start and get into, ideally, a green flag run. Then, teams come down and make their first adjustments. No one knows how their trucks are handling right now. So, having a few laps on the truck, all the teams come down and do what they need to do to be competitive in the race.

PJ1 Trackbite was applied on Thursday night, ahead of the rain. The temperatures in Bristol are around 45 degrees Fahrenheit. Until the tires start to heat up the track, that PJ1 could prove to be slick as ice.

Let’s see what Bristol has in store for the NASCAR weekend this year. Will we see a chaotic Truck Series race tonight with the weather and PJ1? Perhaps. Dustin Long of NBC Sports reported on the competition caution.

Tonight is going to be a lot of fun. When there is a lot of unknowns going into a race it can add to the excitement. There is also the chance for chaos and sloppy racing. We’re going to just try and remain positive for now, though.

This Truck Series has been really good going back to last season. The racing is great. A mix of old veterans and young talent makes for compelling races and rivalries and confrontation.

Tonight, Kyle Larson is in the race. He adds another element to the whole night, but nothing is guaranteed. He had to wait on Corey Heim’s truck to lose power to win the Truck Series race at Homestead.

Kyle Larson going for sweep at NASCAR Bristol weekend

A tripleheader weekend means another opportunity for Kyle Larson to get a clean sweep. In NASCAR history, only one driver has been able to sweep all three national series races in a weekend at the same track – Kyle Busch. He did it not once, but twice.

Before NASCAR went to Bristol, Larson tried it at Homestead. If Sam Mayer didn’t run into the back of him on the final restart in the Xfinity Series race, he might have accomplished the incredible feat. He dominated that Xfinity race, lapping all but the top-five at one point.

So, this weekend, Larson gives it another try. This is a track that Larson has done really well at in the last few years. Going back to 2019, he has six straight top-six finishes and two wins during that time.

In the Xfinity Series at Bristol, Larson has finished in the top-10 each race but the one DNF he had at the track in 2014. Larson does have a win at Bristol in the series, he did that back in 2018 with Chip Ganassi. He has never raced a truck at Bristol. Let’s see how it goes.
