NASCAR announces penalties, fines following weekend races at Indy
NASCAR announced Wednesday the penalties and fines coming out of this past weekend’s action in Indianapolis.
Andy Street, crew chief for the No. 21 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet piloted by Austin Hill in the Xfinity Series, received a $5,000 fine for one lug nut being found not safe and secure after Saturday’s Pennzoil 250 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
NASCAR also fined Blake Bainbridge, crew chief for the No. 43 McAnally-Hilgemann Racing Chevrolet, and Tyler Young for the No. 46 Young’s Motorsports Chevrolet $2,500 each for an unsecured lug nut after Friday’s CRAFTSMAN Truck Series TSport 200 at Indianapolis Raceway Park. Daniel Dye finished 27th behind the wheel of the No. 43, while Thad Moffit came out 32nd in the No. 46. The Aug. 10 race at Richmond will be the final regular season race of the season. The playoffs begin at Milwaukee two weeks later.

No penalties or fines were announced coming out of Sunday’s Brickyard 400 at IMS.
NASCAR hands down another penalty to Austin Hill’s team
Hill, the reigning Xfinity Series regular season champion, raced his way to a sixth-place finish at IMS. It is his four consecutive top-10 result. Hill is up to third in the points standings, having tallied two wins, 13 top 10s and eight top 5s in 20 races this season.
Despite the success this season, Hill’s team is no stranger to being hit with penalties. At Sonoma last month, Street was fined 5,000 for one loose lug nut, similar to the incident this past weekend. NASCAR also fined Hill $25,000 and docked him 25 points for wrecking Cole Custer at Charlotte back in May.
There are just six regular season races remaining until the playoffs begin at Kansas on Sept. 28.
