NASCAR clarifies DVP rule amid Kyle Busch-Daytona 500 controversy

After getting into a wreck towards the end of the Daytona 500, Kyle Busch and his team tried to use the new DVP rule. Well, after making repairs in the garage and returning to the track, things took a turn for the worst. Now NASCAR has clarified the rule.
The new Damaged Vehicle Policy is to give teams a chance to make repairs and keep racing. It is to encourage more competition and opportunities to continue racing.
Following the Daytona 500, Kyle Busch and his RCR team are furious. They returned to the track under caution and then went to pit road to make more repairs while the yellow was still out.
NASCAR claims that Busch did not make minimum speed under green after making repairs in the garage. So, by going back to the pits under yellow, he broke the DVP rule and was parked. DNF.
This is how NASCAR clarified the rule according to Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports:
“NASCAR says the DVP rule is you can only leave the garage once to reach minimum speed so since he left and never reached minimum (even though he came back when under caution), he can’t go back to the garage. And he can’t go to pit road for fixes in that situation (only fuel).”

Kyle Busch was once again having a great Daytona 500. Then he was in a wreck courtesy of Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Joey Logano. From running in the front line to being parked by NASCAR. Busch had another potential win snatched from his hands.
Kyle Busch doubles down on DVP rule
Even after the race was over, Kyle Busch was on a rampage against NASCAR. Well, not a rampage, but he definitely was not happy with how things played out. You can’t blame him much, either.
On X/Twitter, Busch pled his case further.
“Parked by NASCAR officials. Rule says you have 3 attempts to make minimum speed. The race never went back green yet. I don’t even think they know their own rules or procedures.”
Out of all the drivers in NASCAR, Kyle Busch is not going to bite his tongue. If he feels he was wronged, he is going to say something. This appears to be a big deal to him and I’d expect to hear him talk about this new DVP rule in the future. Probably next week before the Atlanta race.
