Who is going to find the magic in the Crayon 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway? We’ve got the favorites here for you. The NASCAR regular season is winding down. Drivers on the playoff bubble are hoping to hold on to their spots or to jump ahead of the others with a surprise win. It’s going to be tough, though.

The Crayon 301 at the Magic Mile. While it would be cooler if it was Crayola Crayons at NHMS, we’ll settle for this other company for now. They were the sponsor of last season’s Xfinity Series race at New Hampshire and are back this year as the sponsor of the Cup race, so they are good in our book.

This week, the folks in Vegas seem to be high on the Toyotas. Given their history at this track, that isn’t a bad idea. However, we have seen Chevy dominate on short tracks, particularly those Hendrick drivers. So, will it hold up?

The odds-on favorite for the Crayon 301 is the defending winner, Christopher Bell. At 11-2 odds, he has a pretty good shot at taking this thing according to Bet MGM. He has two teammates close behind him in the odds, though.

At 13-2 odds, Martin Truex Jr. might be a driver to watch this week. He had been on some kind of hot streak leading up to the Chicago Street Race. After faltering in back-to-back weeks is he ready to rebound and get back in the top-5 or potentially grab his third win of the season?

Not far behind Truex Jr., is recent SRX Series winner, Denny Hamlin. 7-1 odds put Hamlin close to his JGR teammate, and he has a history of winning at this track. He’s also got a brand-new sponsor and look!

Crayon 301 will be next challenge for Chase Elliott

Moving down the odds list, there are a number of veteran drivers and champions behind our top three from the Toyota camp. Kyle Larson (9-1), Kyle Busch (9-1), Kevin Harvick (9-1), and Chase Elliott (11-1) follow the JGR drivers. Larson and Busch are locked in with multiple wins this season. Harvick is the top non-winner in the points. That leaves Elliott the odd man out.

Sitting 60 points below the cutline, Elliott has to figure it out. The Crayon 301 is the next step along the way. Good news for Chase is that he has the best average start at NHMS ever. In NASCAR history. Expect him to be in the final round of qualifying, and if he isn’t, it might be time to raise the alarms.

A win would quiet all of the noise. All of that worry would go away and he could focus on how to get himself to the Championship 4. Until then, it is going to be nerve-wracking for fans to see if he can get enough points without a checkered flag.

Last week’s P13 finish was a big letdown. This week in the Crayon 301, Elliott has to get back to his championship-level performances.
