Erik Jones disqualified after Martinsville

NASCAR disqualified Erik Jones after the Martinsville race for failure to meet minimum weight requirement. Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports said Jones was the only one who had an issues as the “rest of the cars in tech were good.”

ones earned a P24 finish at Martinsville before the penalty. He has yet to earn a top-10 finish this year, and his best showing was at the Daytona 500 when he finished 12th. Erik Jones is in his ninth season as a full-time Cup Series driver and is looking to bounce back after finishing 28th in the last year’s Cup points standings.

In August, Jones signed a contract extension with Legacy Motor Club. The organization commented on the extension at the time.

“Erik Jones has been the consistent cornerstone of Legacy Motor Club’s driver lineup since Maury chose to enter NASCAR’s highly competitive Cup division,” Cal Wells III, CEO of Legacy Motor Club, said in a team release. “He’s a proven champion that, surrounded with the right team powered by Toyota, can and will compete for race wins against the very best on any given Sunday. Having personally known Erik for close to 14 years, I feel blessed he’s chosen to remain with the Club, and I’m looking forward to winning races with him at the helm of the iconic No. 43.”

On3’s Brian Jones also contributed to this report.
