Alex Bowman has been eliminated from the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs and Joey Logano is in. Per Bob Pockrass of Fox Sports, Bowman has been disqualified for failing a post-race weigh-in, and Logano will advance to the Round of 8. It’s likely Bowman and his team will appeal the decision.

Bowman was the last driver to make the Round of 8, and Logano was the first one out. With the move, this means Logano’s hopes of winning a third Cup Series championship are still alive.

After the ROVAL 400 on Sunday, Joey Logano talked about being eliminated from the playoffs. “I mean we fought hard for sure and I think Paul and the guys did a good job of executing the strategy of what we needed to do today,” Logano explained.

“Just didn’t get quite enough there at the end, fell off a little bit too much that last run. Honestly, the 45 and Tyler and those guys did a good job driving up through the field and scored more points. It’s hard not to think about Richmond a little bit right now. I guess the positive for us we’re in the owners championship so we can confuse all the fans from here on out about drivers and owners championship. The money’s in the owners so we’ll keep fighting for the money.”

Looking at Alex Bowman’s 2024 season

Bowman clinched a spot in the playoffs after winning the Chicago Street Race earlier this year. After the victory, Bowman recorded four top-10 finishes with two of those finishes in the top 5. The victory in Chicago was Bowman’s first win in 80 races.

Before the start of the playoffs, Bowman described how he would characterize his regular season. “Yeah, it’s been up-and-down. We’ve had streaks of really good runs,” he said during the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs Media Day. “The last month, we’ve kind of been repeatedly kicked in the teeth. Excited to get the playoffs started. We’re a plenty capable race team, we just need to go out and do it.”

Bowman also talked about how things didn’t go well for him and his team in August. “It’s been a miserable month,” he revealed. “We haven’t executed on a high level at all, so we need to go run better the next 10 weeks. But we need to do that for us and our playoff run; for Ally and the No. 48 team. There’s no like – you need to do this to keep your job. As far as I know, I’m not worried about that at all.”
