Today Legacy Motor Club made a big announcement. They even teased it yesterday with a high-production video to boot. So, it’s not surprising to see NASCAR fans roast the team for making another non-competition-related announcement.
It is Year 3 of Legacy Motor Club. Jimmie Johnson came in and Petty GMS Racing was transformed. Well, apparently it is already time for a rebrand, so all of that two-year-old merch fans bought in 2022 is out of date already.
What was the big announcement? Well, Legacy has a new logo now and the number fonts are slightly different. No longer are they the old Petty-style font fans have known and loved.
But this isn’t a radically different change. For the most part, it appears that Legacy hit CTRL+B to make the fonts bold. They also adjusted the shadows on the number fonts to line up instead of being off-centered as they have been for years under the Petty name.
Turns out, this is not what fans were hoping for. Legacy Motor Club has likely made the most hires and announcements of this manner since the team began. But what have they to show for it?
This fan was not mincing words. Chris Thomas thinks Legacy needs to get rid of the “yes man” or men in the organization and get real.
For this fan, it is clear. A logo rebrand isn’t going to do anything for the on-track product. So, why even waste time on it?

These two fans even had a bit of a fun back-and-forth. But the message is the same – this team is in desperate need of faster cars, not a new logo in Year 3 of the organization.
Legacy Motor Club needs to figure it out
Not only is this a minor rebrand, it was hyped up for an entire day. Then the end result is that the Petty legacy, funny enough, is erased from the organization. So, it’s not hard to see why fans would be upset or dismissive.
Jimmie Johnson, arguably, is going more to damage his legacy now than anything. His lackluster results in the part-time starts he makes are damaging. Then decisions like this from the organization further engrain that idea from fans. This is a team with a lot of money to spend and maybe, no idea how to spend it.
Let’s not forget that Erik Jones won the Southern 500 with Petty GMS and finished 18th in the points that season. He was close to the playoffs. He has finished 27th and 28th in points since the team became Legacy Motor Club. In that 2022 season, Jones had 12 top-10s. He has had only 9 since the change.
So, what are we doing here? Is Legacy Motor Club worried about aesthetics and saying they have the best names in place for leadership? Or is it slowly becoming too busy in the offices and not busy enough on the shop floor on the actual race cars? It is hard to say, but fans want something to change.
