In true American fashion, the Garage 56 team has forced a rule change at Le Mans for being too fast on the track. The original plan was for the NASCAR Chevy Camaro ZL1 to start behind the GTE AM entries. However, the car is just too fast for the GTE AM class to compete with.

Since the Garage 56 team isn’t officially in a category, they were to start at the rear of the Le Mans 24-Hour field. The only issue is that in testing and practice, the Camaro was faster than the GTE cars. These are cars that look like sports cars with big spoilers on the back of them. They look like your regular sports cars, with some additional changes.

This is a class that Ford and Ferrari and other manufacturers compete in. With the Garage 56 car being so much faster, it is a bit of a safety concern to have it start behind the field of GTE cars. Especially if the safety car comes out and the NASCAR team has to start at the rear again.

It’s the idea that cautions breed cautions and having a faster car start behind slower cars will almost always lead to wrecks and other racing incidents.

Only Endurance reported on the rule change that will have the Garage 56 Camaro starting in the back of the LMP2 class. These are prototype cars, the ones that look like crazy Hot Wheels. LMP simply stands for Le Mans Prototype. This is the main class that you see zipping around the 24-hour race.

This is good news, ultimately. It means that the Garage 56 Camaro is performing really well. Even better than the folks at NASCAR or Le Mans were expecting.

Garage 56 documentary in the works

Things at Le Mans have been going great for the Garage 56 team. Fans are loving the NASCAR crew and have been cheering them on whenever they get a chance. Even the pit crew came away with an award during the pit crew challenge. Showing what American racing has to offer to the world.

However, there is something even better in the works, a documentary. Giving fans a chance to look at the behind-the-scenes stuff and the whole journey that this team is going through. It should be a fun one to watch.

“We’re proud to partner with our friends at NASCAR Studios to bring this incredible story of innovation and determination to our Prime Video customers,” Matt Newman, head of Prime Video sports content said. “The 24 Hours of Le Mans is one of the most exciting and grueling competitions in sports, and the work that goes into preparing for a moment like this is something we think audiences will find equal parts entertaining and inspiring.”

The Americans have taken France by store. Now all that is left to do is to finish the 24 hour race and come home to the United States.
