NASCAR hands down penalties for Ricky Stenhouse Jr.-Kyle Busch fight at North Wilkesboro
It didn’t take long for NASCAR to decide on penalties in the wake of the Ricky Stenhouse Jr. fight with Kyle Busch at North Wilkesboro. I hope Stenhouse felt like it was worth it in the end.
FOX’s Bob Pockrass has taken to X (formerly known as Twitter) on Wednesday to share the information. Stenhouse Jr. has been fined, while his father and members of his team have been suspended. Meanwhile, Busch’s side has gotten off with a warning, it seems.
“Fight penalties: Stenhouse fined $75,000. Stenhouse team suspensions: Richard Stenhouse Sr. (indefinite), mechanic Clint Myrick (eight races), engine tuner Keith Matthews (four races),” Pockrass shared. “No penalties to Busch or his team.”
Normally, NASCAR just lets drivers hash things out. No penalties, no punishments. However, in this case, a lot more happened. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. started the fight 198 laps, and about two hours after he crashed out of the race.
Now, I think NASCAR can still overlook that part, especially since Stenhouse couldn’t leave the infield. But the fact we saw multiple crew members from the 47 crew AND Stenhouse’s own father involved – the governing body had to step in.

As for on-track retaliation, we’ll see in Ricky Stenhouse Jr. decides the Coca-Cola 600 is the time and place to wreck Kyle Busch, or if the punch that connected at North Wilkesboro is enough revenge for the No. 47.
Richard Childress: If Ricky Stenhouse Jr. wrecks Kyle Busch at Charlotte, ‘he’ll carry a rough ass-beating’
The post-All Star Race fight between Kyle Busch and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. has been the talk of the NASCAR world this week. The two drivers got into it after a wreck during the race at North Wilkesboro Speedway and a brawl quickly ensued.
Speaking at the Helping A Hero Patriot Award Dinner on Tuesday, Richard Childressweighed in on the situation and offered some fiery thoughts on how things would’ve gone if he was there. Then, he issued a fierce warning to Stenhouse if he follows through on his initial promise this week at Charlotte – which he later walked back.
“I would’ve jumped right in the middle of it,” Childress said. “… I don’t fight as fair as I used to. I’m a little older. Ricky Stenhouse said that he was going to wreck the 8 car at Charlotte. Well, when I see him, I’m gonna tell him if he does, I’m older, but I’ve just changed my style of fighting. He’ll carry a rough ass-beating.”
