Sherry Pollex, who lost her battle against ovarian cancer this September, was posthumously honored with the Myers Brothers Award. NASCAR has made a great effort to honor Sherry’s life and legacy. This is the second time that Pollex has been honored with the award.

The Myers Brothers Award is given to someone who has made outstanding contributions to the sport of stock-car racing. For her charitable work fighting pediatric and ovarian cancer, NASCAR has honored Sherry Pollex with the award for 2023.

In 2017, Pollex won the award for the first time. Then, she shared it with her former partner, Martin Truex Jr. However, the two split up at the beginning of 2023.

A fixture in the NASCAR garage for years, Pollex was respected and loved in the community. The Catwalk for a Cause and Martin Truex Jr. Foundation were able to raise millions for cancer research and other charitable works.

With Champion’s Week in Nashville, NASCAR made sure to honor Sherry Pollex once again. She is more than deserving of this wonderful award, although it is a melancholy feeling.

Pollex was also awarded the Comcast Community Champion of the Year award earlier this week. Comcast made a $10,000 donation to the Sherry Strong Foundation. Through the foundation, Sherry’s legacy lives on.

While it is a somber celebration, it is wonderful that NASCAR has honored Sherry Pollex with this award. Fans, drivers, and others in the industry were all appreciative of the gesture. After her death, NASCAR honored Pollex with decals on all of the cars.

Sherry Pollex an ‘inspiration’ for NASCAR

When she was alive, Sherry Pollex was a regular figure in NASCAR. She was always around, even if she wasn’t being seen. Working behind the scenes, Pollex was able to raise money and do so much good through her charitable works.

Her death was a huge loss for the sport and the world. NASCAR released a statement at the time of Pollex’s death, honoring her and her family. Here it is, below.

“NASCAR is saddened to learn of the passing of Sherry Pollex, whose fight against cancer and determination to help others through the Sherry Strong Foundation was an inspiration to all who knew her. NASCAR and the NASCAR Foundation’s thoughts and prayers are with Sherry’s family and friends.”

So, another award for Sherry Pollex. When we get to 2024, I hope that we don’t stop hearing about Pollex, her life, and her lasting legacy.
