NASCAR insider addresses Kyle Busch possibly replacing Corey LaJoie at Spire in 2025
Surprising news broke on Thursday morning regarding Corey LaJoie and his future with Spire Motorsports. He will not return for the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series season, ending a relationship dating back to 2021. This has led to speculation as to who would take over the No. 7 seat, with some suggesting Kyle Busch, given his tough season at RCR.
However, FOX’s Bob Pockrass has shut down that idea on social media. Pockrass says Busch will play out his contract with Richard Childress Racing. While “never say never” does apply here, it’s just not a move the NASCAR insider sees happening.
“No. I don’t expect Kyle Busch to be in a Cup car at Spire next year from the people I talked to today,” Pockrass said via X. “Kyle Busch has a contract with RCR for next year and while never say never, that is where I see him next year.”
Busch has not had the best season with RCR. In 22 races, he has finished inside the top 10 on just six occasions and top five twice. Five DNFs are on the resume as well, with Busch’s average finish being nearly 20th place.
So for now, there appears to be no movement for Busch. Spire will have to look elsewhere to replace LaJoie after an exit not many expected.

Corey LaJoie releases statement on parting ways with Spire Motorsports in 2025
Corey LaJoie won’t be returning to Spire Motorsports for the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series season. He announced the news in a statement of his own today.
Corey LaJoie has been with Spire Motorsports since the 2021 season and is seen as a driving force in many of the strides the organization has taken since then. However, his performance in 2024 has left a lot to be desired.
In a statement released to The Athletic, LaJoie broke the news about his 2025 future.
“I won’t be driving the 7 car next year,” LaJoie said, via Jordan Bianchi. “I take a lot of satisfaction from having an integral part of building Spire into a respectable team on the grid, but unfortunately the future won’t involve me. We will finish the remainder of 2024 strong, continuing to deliver for my partners, my guys who work hard to build good cars, family, fans & friends who have supported me since day one in the Cup Series.
“This chapter ends after Phoenix and I’m excited to see what the Lord has in store for my family next.”
