NASCAR insider addresses where Harrison Burton lands in light of Josh Berry news
Wood Brothers Racing is set to reveal Wednesday which driver will pilot the No. 21 Ford in the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series season. Of course, that means that Harrison Burton is out of a job after three seasons with WBR.
Burton, still just 23, has struggled to make his mark in the Cup Series to this point, but will another team take a chance on him? Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports provided an update on Burton’s future, saying it’s currently “TBD.”
“Still TBD for Harrison Burton (he does bring some sponsorship with him) as far as what series/team he will race for next year,” Pockrass wrote on X.
As Pockrass noted, Burton does have strong sponsorship from DEX Imaging which could follow him wherever he lands. Where exactly he lands remains to be seen, though we know for sure it won’t be at WBR, who is expected to announce the signing of Stewart-Haas Racing’s Josh Berry.

Harrison Burton posting underwhelming results in Cup Series
Burton joined WBR in 2022 following two full-time seasons in the Xfinity Series where he won four races in 2020. Unfortunately for Burton, the success he had with Joe Gibbs Racing in the Xfinity Series didn’t translate to the iconic No. 21 car at WBR. He finished 27th in the points standings in his rookie campaign and 31st this past season. Through 19 races in 2024, Burton is 33rd in points with just one top-10 finish. In 86 Cup Series starts total, he has tallied just five top-10s.
WBR has fallen under hard times since the turn of the century. The team currently operates as a one-car team and shares a technical alliance with Team Penske. David Pearson brought success to the team in the 1970s, winning 43 races during his tenure in the No. 21 car. It’s been far from smooth sailing since. WBR has compiled just two victories since Elliott Sadler’s win in 2001.
