NASCAR insider reveals others interested in buying charters out from under 23XI, Front Row
The hot topic of the offseason is the lawsuit 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports have levied against NASCAR. With the charter situation and purchase of new charters from Stewart-Haas Racing up in the air, others are wondering how they can take advantage of the situation.
On the latest episode of The Teardown, Jeff Gluck and Jordan Bianchi of The Athletic took fan questions. Among the topics, “What do you think could be the worst outcome for the sport,” regarding the lawsuit.
In response to the question, Bianchi revealed a little inside information. There are others inquiring about the Stewart-Haas charters. After talking about a potential split, ala IndyCar in the 1990s, the journalist laid out what is probably the worst-case for 23XI and Front Row.
“The SHR part is certainly interesting and I don’t think you would necessarily see a lawsuit from SHR,” Bianchi said. “From my understanding and the conversations I’ve had with people, people have made inquiries about those charters. Like, ‘Hey, are those available? If they’re available we’re interested in them.’ So, I don’t think that SHR’s going to be in a spot of, what are we going to do here, we don’t want these, we’re in scramble mode.
“I think they’re going to have suitors for them. The problem is we’re in mid-December and the season starts in what, eight weeks or whatever it is. So, you’ve got a lot to sort out between that.”

23XI and Front Row might be in a tough situation.
When will the NASCAR lawsuit come to an end?
It sounds like there is a scenario where NASCAR lets SHR sell these charters to other teams. Or new teams. But if the value of the charters is cheapened by this ordeal, do Tony Stewart and Gene Haas eat the loss or file their own lawsuit?
Despite the current issues, Bianchi doesn’t believe this will drag on long.
“I agree with you, I think this is settled before Daytona,” he continued. “I think that in some way or fashion that an agreement is reached…”
It would likely send shockwaves through the sport if anyone but 23XI and FRM ended up with those charters. Right now, it looks like each organization will end up racing three open cars in 2025. That could create major consequences for the sport.
