Teams will use the same tire compound during this Sunday’s Round of 12 race at Kansas as they did at the spring race back in May, according to Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports.

The tire was also used in races this season at Las Vegas, Texas, Nashville and Pocono. As for Friday’s Truck Series race and the Xfinity Series’ playoff opener on Saturday, teams will have the same tire they have used at Kansas since 2022.

The Cup Series tire was a winner, as the spring race at Kansas is looked back on as one of the more entertaining races of the season. It featured the closest finish in Cup Series history with Kyle Larson edging out Chris Buescher by 0.001 seconds to take the checkered flag.

This time around, Larson is the favorite to get to Victory Lane at Kansas once again. The Hendrick Motorsports star has won twice at Kansas and finished inside the top 10 in each of his last six starts at the 1.5-mile track. He is coming off a dominant performance at Bristol this past Saturday. He led 462-of-500 laps to win his series-leading fifth race of the season.

With seven races remaining until a champion is crowned at Phoenix, Larson just might be the driver to beat. Larson knows, however, he can’t afford to coast. He must stay aggressive in his pursuit of winning his second career Cup Series title.

“I don’t really think a performance like tonight sent a message,” Larson said after his win at Bristol. “We’ve dominated lots of races. We’ve led the most laps in a number of races. I think teams already know that we’re capable of doing it on any given weekend. Now, it’s definitely nice to do it, but there’s also so many other great teams out there.

“No, I don’t think a performance like tonight just puts us as the sure favorite. It’s just hard. Every week changes in the playoffs. Just got to keep bringing fast race cars and keep executing like we did tonight. And hopefully more good runs will come.”
