NASCAR fined Joey Logano for doing a burnout on pit road in front of Austin Dillon‘s crew and family on Sunday, and two insiders have a lot to say about it. On The Teardown podcast, Jordan Bianchi and Jeff Gluck of The Athletic agreed with the punishment handed down to Logano.

“You can’t have that. I understand Logano has every right to be angry and frustrated, but you can’t do it then. You can’t do it like that,” Bianchi said. “If you’re frustrated/angry, you can do something else. But on pit road you’ve got to be smarter.”

Bianchi also said that Logano shouldn’t have been suspended and the $50,000 fine could have been higher since Ricky Stenhouse Jr. was fined 75,000 for punching Kyle Busch. “This honestly would probably be worse in my eyes than that,” Bianchi said.

Gluck agreed with Bianchi and said it’s something NASCAR can re-evaluate during the offseason. “This was definitely on the higher end of things. Maybe in the offseason, you go back to the rulebook, and you say ‘Okay, we’re going to start raising this now,” he said. “This seems pretty close to being really dangerous. Not good, clearly $50,000 is sort of like the standard, but I could understand if he would have gotten more. I don’t know that you suspend him for that.”

Joey Logano lashes out at Austin Dillon

Logano was angry because Dillon wrecked him during the final lap at the Cook Out 400 at Richmond on Sunday. He was seconds away from winning his second Cup Series race of the year. But the wreck placed him at 19th. This led to Logano doing the burnout and lashing out at Dillon after the race.

“It’s chicken shit. There’s no doubt about it. He is four car lengths back, not even close. Then he wrecks the 11 to go along with it. Then he’s going to go up there and thank God and praise everything with his baby. It’s a bunch of BS. It’s not even freakin’ close,” Logano said.

“Dude, I get it, bump-n-run. I get it. I didn’t back up the corner at all. He came in there and just drove through me. It’s ridiculous that that’s the way we race. Unbelievable. I get bump-n-runs. I do that. I would expect it. But from four car lengths back, he was never going to make the corner. Then he wrecks the other car, wrecks the 11 to go with it. What a piece of crap.”
