NASCAR issues significant penalty to Ty Majeski and ThorSport Racing for Milwaukee violation
NASCAR issued an L2 penalty Tuesday to the No. 98 ThorSport Racing team of Ty Majeski stemming from this past Sunday’s Clean Harbors 175 at Milwaukee Mile Speedway.
Majeski’s championship hopes take hit with the penalty, as he and his team have been docked 75 points and five playoff points. As a result of the penalties levied, crew chief Joe Shear Jr. received a $25,000 fine and four-race suspension. He is eligible to return for the season finale at Phoenix Raceway on Nov. 3, per Bob Pockrass of Fox Sports.
The team was penalized during pre-race inspection for a wheel assembly violation. Officials confiscated the right-rear tire from Majeski’s Ford F-150 and he had to start the playoff race from the rear of the field. Also forced to serve a pass-through penalty on the opening lap, Majeski rallied to pick up a seventh place finish.
Majeski remains automatically qualified for the Round of 8, having won the playoff opener at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park on Aug. 11. He said after his latest victory he felt he was peaking at the right time.

“Teams hitting on all cylinders right now, we are really peaking on the right time,” Majeski said, via Sportskeeda. “Obviously, we haven’t won to this point this year but we always had the speed to do so. We just needed to do a better job at executing on all fronts. We finally put it all together tonight and of course no better time than to compete in the playoffs. Excited about it, excited about what the future holds and hope this is a beginning of a good playoff run.”
Ty Majeski hoping to rebound after hefty penalty
Majeski added he wants to stay aggressive as he goes further into the playoffs.
“We can be more aggressive in the next two races,” Majeski said. “Nothing matters for us other than a stage win or a race win. So that’s what we are focussed on for the next few races. Maybe be a little bit more aggressive whether it’s on setup or strategy, to try and capture those wins. We wanna collect as many playoff points as we can to build up our buffer for round two.”
