This holiday season there are still families struggling in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene in North Carolina, and NASCAR is here to help. NASCAR has in many ways given back to the community it calls home when that community has needed help.

Last week, ahead of Christmas, NASCAR and Lowe’s made their final delivery of 100 total tiny homes to hurricane victims. It was a 17 home shipment, built in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Last Thursday the deliveries began. This work from NASCAR and Lowe’s is part of a recovery package that totals $12 million. Skilled tradesmen and workers are doing what they can to give temporary shelter to those who need it most.

Recovery efforts have lasted months. It is easy to forget when you are not directly in those communities. For North Carolina, it has been an ongoing process that has needed all hands on deck from day one.

One of the contractors spoke about how important this work is. There are willing and able workers wanting to do something to help these families. This gives them a chance to do just that.

“Everyone else in Charlotte wanted to work, but couldn’t go out there and take a day,” said Kelly of Kelly McArdle Construction, via ABC News.

For Lowe’s this was a chance to give back and bring a community together.

“From a Lowe’s standpoint, we said: ‘Okay, if you can bring the builders, we can bring the products,’ and so that’s how we got involved,” said Julie Yenichek, Lowe’s senior director of community relations.

NASCAR has been at heart of recovery efforts

Since Hurricane Helene destroyed homes in North Carolina, NASCAR, current and former drivers, and others in the industry have been intimately involved. 2024 Cup Series champion Joey Logano has been making trips to affected areas to help with relief efforts.

Of course, Greg Biffle made headlines with his helicopter trips. He was able to get goods and resources to many who were cut off due to the storm. Biffle earned an award from NASCAR for his work during the immediate recovery efforts.

NASCAR has called North Carolina home for decades. Since the beginning. It is only right that the sport helps out when it can when that community is in desperate need. There have been many harrowing and inspiring stories from these recovery efforts.

Hopefully, there are 100 families with temporary housing that didn’t have it before. Christmas is already stressful enough without the weight of wondering where you are going to sleep on your shoulders. Good on NASCAR and Lowe’s for this work.
