FOX’s Mike Joy showed his appreciation for Corey Comperatore after he passed away due to injuries sustained at the Trump Rally in Pennsylvania over the weekend.

It’s become worldwide news, and a low-point for the United States of America, but Saturday was a heartbreaking day for the Comperatore family, as Corey, a husband and father, was shot and killed during the assassination attempt of Donald Trump.

Taking to social media, the NASCAR broadcaster for FOX provided his condolences for Comperatore’s family and friends, and wrote a nice message about him and how he was a fixture at his local Lernerville Speedway, where he was a member of the track’s safety crew for two decades.

“Corey Comperatore was a fixture at Lernerville Speedway in his hometown in PA, a member of the track’s Safety Crew for over 20 years. He also sold 50/50 tickets at the speedway to benefit the BTVFD,” Joy posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Corey will forever be remembered as a hero who saved his wife and daughter.”

While NASCAR has become a global sport, the true heart of a racer is found at local tracks, within people like Comperatore, who help make it all go around. That’s where the love for racing comes from for many NASCAR fans, and how some of the top drivers of all time have received their start.

It’s an awesome gesture from Mike Joy, and something the Comperatore family will likely appreciate, as America tries to move past what happened in Pennsylvania over the weekend, while remembering the man who unfairly lost his life in the process.

Brad Keselowski reacts to Saturday shooting at Donald Trump campaign rally in Pennsylvania

Meanwhile, a number of sports figures added their own commentary to the conversation in the aftermath of the shooting that injured former president Donald Trump during a rally on Saturday. NASCAR Cup Series champion Brad Keselowski chimed into the conversation late on Saturday evening.

And Keselowski came with a message that attempted to rise above partisan politics, calling the ordeal “bad for democracy.” Keselowski also acknowledged the days events come at a particularly fragile moment for the United States.

“Regardless of political beliefs, this is bad for democracy,” Keselowski said. “We are living in fragile times as it seems our great nation is struggling. I’m praying tonight for peace and understanding.

“For my blue and red family and friends, for our sons and daughters, and beyond, may they be blessed to inherit a great nation that overcomes senseless violence.”
