The folks at RFK Racing were the headline of the NASCAR weekend after Chris Buescher won the Cook Out 400 at Richmond Raceway. Not only did we get a strategy finish in the Truck Series and Cup Series races, but the Xfinity Series delivered some great action on the road. Road America proved that the repave was a big deal.

This weekend was a split one in NASCAR. AJ Allmendinger decided that he would race in Wisconsin and Virginia. He raced in the Xfinity Series event and was a contender until he was wrecked in the final stage. How about the series moving to The CW?

The Xfinity Series race was a bit messy. These drivers were having a tough time staying on the track and the grass and gravel was unforgiving. What was great about the Xfinity Series was the finish. In the last two laps, we got some of the best racing ever in the secondary series.

This race had a fantastic finish with Sam Mayer earning his first career win. The JR Motorsports driver seems to have made a breakthrough and did it in front of his hometown crowd at Road America.

There was a scary situation with Chandler Smith in this race. He lost his brakes and had to make the choice to wreck his car on purpose to avoid a head-on collision.

In the Truck Series, it was a strategy race that ended with heartbreak for Ty Majeski. Richmond is the final race before the Truck Series playoffs. While he had the lead in the final stage, he just didn’t have the grip or fuel to hold off Carson Hocevar.

Tough break for Majeski, elation for Hocevar as he wins his third race of the season.

Chris Buescher wins third career NASCAR Cup Series race

Of course, the NASCAR Cup Series race wasn’t the most exciting. Lots of green flag racing and tire strategy went into this race as well. Martin Truex Jr. had a very interesting tire strategy that almost paid off. However, it just wasn’t enough.

Early on, the 23XI Racing drivers were really strong and so were both RFK Racing drivers. It was a battle between the two teams for most of the afternoon. Both Tyler Reddick and Bubba Wallace had mistakes on pit road that cost them track position to some degree. But Wallace picked up precious points in the stages.

This race was more or less green flag racing with not much drama. However, we did see Kyle Larson give Denny Hamlin the bumper. Two laps down on less!

Chris Buescher had a rocket ship on this NASCAR short track. Once he got to clean air, it was over. Even after this Noah Gragson and Daniel Suárez incident led to a late restart, Buescher stayed steady.

In that final restart, Denny Hamlin made a Hail Mary move but locked up his front right brakes. He went up the track, blocked any other driver from advancing, and Buescher went on to take the checkered flag.

RFK Racing really needed this win and it helps that Brad Keselowski was strong as well. While the win wasn’t very dramatic, Buescher put down one of the top-3 burnouts of the NASCAR season. He enjoyed every bit of this victory.
