The NASCAR Cup Series regular-season finale ended in a walk-off win for Stewart-Haas Racing and Chase Briscoe in the Southern 500. Of course, that meant that a couple of drivers had their hearts broken at the end of the night.

Of course, we had NASCAR Xfinity Series action this weekend and a little ARCA Menards Series action on dirt once again. The focus was on Darlington and that is what we are mostly going to discuss in this week’s recap.

The Truck and Cup Series are both now in the postseason. We still have a little big longer to go for the Xfinity Series this regular season.

Brent Crews dominates ARCA race at DuQuoin

Just to hit on the ARCA action real quick, it was another dirt race in Illinois and it was quite the race. There was dust flying and lots of contact at times.

Despite the unpredictable track and race, Brent Crews dominated and led every lap on his way to the win. Impressive race for the 16-year-old.

Pato O’Ward interested in NASCAR Mexico City race

Now how about some IndyCar crossover news? Pato O’Ward knows that NASCAR is going to his country of Mexico next year and he wants to be part of it.

O’Ward and NASCAR are both interested in bringing the McLaren driver to Mexico City. It will come down to what his team and IndyCar decide.

Christian Eckes upgrades his NASCAR ride for 2025

Kaulig Racing announced that they have signed Christian Eckes for 2025. He will pilot the No. 16 car in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.

Eckes is in the middle of a championship fight in the Truck Series. Kaulig wants him to focus on that and then they will get together in the offseason and prepare for 2025.

Christopher Bell wins pole, Xfinity Series race

Back to on-track action, there were a number of Cup Series drivers in the Xfinity Series race. Christopher Bell won the pole award.

Bell won the pole and then went on to win the race. Sheldon Creed looked to have it won until a final overtime restart shattered his dreams of earning his first career win.

Richard Childress, Austin Dillon speak out against NASCAR penalty

Now that the appeals process is over, Richard Childress and Austin Dillon are freely speaking their minds. To put it simply, neither is happy.

Childress and Dillon believe NASCAR overstepped and changed the way races will be handled in the future. They seem to believe this sets a worse precedent than not penalizing Dillon would have.

Bubba Wallace wins Southern 500 pole award

When it came time to qualify for the Southern 500, Bubba Wallace put it all on the line. Knowing he needed stage points and possibly a win, Wallace hit the wall twice on his first qualifying lap.

It all ended up working out for Wallace. He won the pole award, that is. As for the race…we’ll get to that.

23XI Racing makes strange sign about NASCAR charters

Speaking of 23XI Racing, team co-owner Curtis Polk had a strange sign on his back. NASCAR has recently sent another charter offer to the teams.

Polk’s sign said he didn’t want to be asked about charters. The reason why? He didn’t want to “disparage” NASCAR and lose a charter. Very interesting…

Martin Truex Jr., Ryan Blaney out early

Three laps into the NASCAR Southern 500, Martin Truex Jr. and Ryan Blaney were both out of the race. Drivers went three-wide into Turn 1 and it did not end up working out.

Truex Jr. washed up the track a bit and tried to avoid wrecking William Byron. Well, he ended up taking Ryan Blaney with him in the process. Tough break for both. But Truex held on to make the playoffs.

Tyler Reddick holds it all in for regular season championship

During the race, Tyler Reddick reported feeling sick. How sick? His team had to feed him snacks and medicine to keep him from puking and soiling himself.

Reddick reported that he held it all in but it wasn’t a fun time. Finishing P10, he won the regular season over Kyle Larson by one point.

Josh Berry causes the big one late at Darlington

This race really didn’t have a lot of action in terms of wrecks. There was that Truex incident early but then a ton of green flag laps. Late, Carson Hocevar triggered a couple of cautions and restarts.

However, the most consequential wreck happened late when Josh Berry got into the wall, into Ty Gibbs and then a pileup. Bubba Wallace was involved and it ended his playoff hopes.

Chase Briscoe upsets NASCAR Playoff picture, wins Southern 500

Just before the huge wreck, Chase Briscoe made a move to pass from fourth to first. It was that move that would ultimately earn him the win at Darlington.

The Southern 500. It’s a crown jewel. Briscoe said he had one more bullet and it hit, hit it did. The 14 car is going racing in the NASCAR Playoffs!
