NASCAR Paint Schemes of the Week: Throwback Weekend at Darlington

It is finally NASCAR Throwback Weekend at Darlington. The Cup Series will have a number of fantastic throwback schemes for the Goodyear 400. You are likely going to see one of your favorite classic schemes on the track.
Having Martinsville and Darlington back-to-back is a NASCAR purist’s dream. Two classic tracks that ooze Cup Series history.
The Goodyear 400 has been a great event the last few years. NASCAR has really built it up into a weekend to celebrate the sport and the people who made the sport what it is today. All of those drivers, teams, and sponsors who paved the way for today’s stars.
Austin Cindric No. 2 Freightliner Ford

An iconic Dale Earnhardt scheme. Austin Cindric is taking the No. 2 back to the yellow and blue. Team Penske knocked all of their schemes out of the park this week and this Osterlund Racing scheme is just the beginning.
When it comes to paint schemes, there are few more recognizable than this, at least for a certain NASCAR fan. Cindric is hoping his battery makes it through the race this week. 9/10. (-1 for being a Ford)
Noah Gragson No. 4 Beef-a-Roo Ford

Another Earnhardt tribute, this time for Dale Jr. Noah Gragson could use a good run at Darlington as he sits at 32nd in the points.
This is the third year and third team for Gragson in the Cup Series. Can he get his NASCAR season back on track with a strong showing at The Lady in Black? 8.5/10.
Kyle Larson No. 5 HendrickCars.com Chevy

This is going to be the fan-favorite for many NASCAR fans. Kyle Larson is repping Terry Labonte this weekend at Darlington.
While Tony the Tiger couldn’t be found for comment, this scheme is as perfect as it gets. It has a good chance of finding Victory Lane, too. 9/10.
Ryan Blaney No. 12 Menards/Dutch Boy Ford

Dave Blaney is officially retired from all racing, even sprint cars. This year for NASCAR Throwback Weekend, Ryan Blaney is celebrating his father.
While the colors are not an exact match to the original, it’s still fantastic. Bright, colorful, and honestly, put the font back to normal and keep this as the primary scheme for Menards and the 12 team. 8.5/10.
Christopher Bell No. 20 Christopher Bell DeWalt Toyota

Speaking of sprint car racing, Christopher Bell is doing a tribute to his mentor growing up. This DeWalt scheme is my personal favorite. That is a classic-looking race car.

From the font of the number to the classic DeWalt logo, everything about this car is pleasing to my eyes. 10/10.
Josh Berry No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford

Going back to the 1965 Indianapolis 500. To celebrate 75 years of Wood Brothers, the 21 car is decked out like the Lotus that Jim Clark raced to the win.
What is there not to like about this paint scheme? NASCAR and IndyCar coming together for a gorgeous-looking car. 10/10.
Joey Logano No. 22 Shell Pennzoil Ford

Joey Logano and the Shell Pennzoil Ford have a great look this weekend. Another classic, from the colors to the font. Logano is hoping to have another solid run and build off of his first top-10 of the season.
Team Penske did great. Cindric, Blaney, and Logano might be the best trio of the weekend. 9/10.
Todd GillilandNo. 34 Ruedebusch Ford

Celebrating Ray Fox, the No. 34 team has a direct descendant working on the car each week. Todd Gilliland has two top-10 finishes this season and wants more.
Last year, Gilliland was P15 and P17 at Darlington. I won’t be shocked to see another top-10 finish on the board for Gilliland. 8.5/10.
Zane Smith No. 38 Long John Silver’s Ford

Every year we get to see the Long John Silver’s pirate as he is meant to be at Darlington. This paint scheme returns and with the contingency sponsor decals that FRM is using this year, it makes the look more complete.
Zane Smith is part of that young core at Front Row. He is coming off P11 and P16 finishes, had a top-10 at Phoenix, and will be looking for more this NASCAR weekend.
