NASCAR penalty report released after Bristol weekend

NASCAR announced just one penalty from the races at Bristol this past weekend. The governing body penalized the No. 7 JR Motorsports team (Justin Allgaier) for a lug nut missing following Saturday’s Xfinity Series race. Per the NASCAR rule book, the team will be fined $5,000. NASCAR also announced that Kevin Lucas Jr. has been suspended for behavioral reasons.
Despite the penalty, Justin Allgaier had a strong performance during the Bristol Xfinity race on Saturday. He led the field for nine laps and finished third behind Cup Series star Kyle Larson. Allgaier has had a very strong start to the 2025 Xfinity Series season, recording two consecutive wins and three consecutive third-place finishes. Last year, Allgaier won the Xfinity Series championship for the first time in his career.
Along with the success Allgaier has had in the Xfinity Series, he had a strong showing in the Daytona 500 this year. He drove the No. 40 car for JR Motorsports and finished ninth. It was his second top-10 finish in his Cup Series career.
“Every day up until this morning was tough emotionally,” JR Motorsports co-owner Dale Earnhardt Jr. told NBC Sports after the Daytona 500. “Today, I didn’t have any nerves. Obviously at the end there, nervous about just getting through the wrecks. I didn’t anticipate or expect a top-10 finish. So, I think we’ve been blessed.

Justin Allgaier having success in the NASCAR Xfinity and Cup Series
“We were prepared and did everything we could to be right and when our opportunity come in the race to get what we could get, we got it. The day was nice. It was really low pressure. All the hard work and the emotion was the buildup. We got to the 1-yard line and punched it in to finish the day. We’ll see what comes next. That’s the next thing.”
“I think we checked all the boxes,” Allgaier said of his and his team’s performance. “I’m really proud of JR Motorsports and everybody on this team. We hit all the markers, we had DVP (damaged vehicle policy), we had pit stops, we had craziness in picking lines. A lot of uncertainty on my part, just knowing the guys you are around. But all in all, it was a solid night.”
