The Round of 8 in the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs is set following Kyle Larson’s victory in Sunday’s Bank of America Roval 400 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Larson, fresh off leading 62-of-109 laps at Charlotte, is the No. 1 seed for the next round with a 33-point advantage. Christopher Bell, who finished as the runner-up to Larson at Charlotte, is a distant No. 2 seed, +13 above the cutline.

Tyler Reddick edges out Joey Logano for final Round of 8 spot at Charlotte

Reddick, the regular season champion, secured the final spot courtesy of an 11th-place finish in Sunday’s race. He edged out two-time Cup Series champion Joey Logano, who finished P8. Logano, who missed out on advancing by four points, couldn’t help but think of Turn 3 on the final lap at Richmond back in August. That, of course, was his race to win until Austin Dillion intentionally spun him, thus costing him the victory.

That moment was the difference between he and Reddick at Charlotte.

“I mean we fought hard for sure. And I think [crew chief] Paul [Wolfe] and the guys did a good job of executing the strategy of what we needed to do today,” Logano said after the race. “Just didn’t get quite enough there at the end, fell off a little bit too much that last run. Honestly, the 45 and Tyler and those guys did a good job driving up through the field and scored more points.

“It’s hard not to think about Richmond a little bit right now. I guess the positive for us we’re in the owners championship so we can confuse all the fans from here on out about drivers and owners championship. The money’s in the owners so we’ll keep fighting for the money.”

The Round of 8 gets underway next Sunday with the South Point 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
