NASCAR reportedly in talks with Netflix to air playoffs docu-series
Fans wanting to see a NASCAR docu-series like Netflix’s Drive to Survive might see their dreams come true soon. A new report from Sports Business Journal claims that NASCAR is pitching a playoffs docu-series with the streaming giant that elevated F1 to prominence in the United States.
The passion, the emotions, the NASCAR Playoffs are a perfect docu-series topic. Adam Stern of SBJ reported that there are talks ongoing with NASCAR and Netflix. Earlier this year, the decision was made to shelve a full-season docu-series. Race For The Championship in 2022 didn’t make anyone eager to sign on for that kind of deal again.
With a 10-week playoff format, there is a lot of content that can be made from it. There is nothing else in motorsports like the NASCAR Playoffs.
According to the report, NASCAR has not announced the new series due to ongoing talks. They are planning on finalizing the deal before making it public. After this weekend, there is just one more race before the postseason. The Cup Series will take on Daytona on a Saturday night August 26th.
In this new era of motorsports and media, things like this are a necessity. NASCAR wants to build a new base of fans and give something back to their old fans. A behind-the-scenes look at the playoffs is a great way to accomplish both of those things.

NASCAR has had previous success on Netflix
In 2022, NASCAR did have some Netflix success. A Bubba Wallace docu-series titled Race. That show went on to have a lot of success and even won a Sports Emmy for the efforts behind the project. With that success behind them, perhaps the streaming platform is more willing to work with them.
While NASCAR has not commented on the playoffs docu-series at this time, it is great to hear that the organization is trying to get something going. If you aren’t putting out media and trying to do new and exciting things, you stall out. It is a new world with social media and streaming so NASCAR has to play along.
NASCAR has a lot of interesting projects going on. The Classics website just released this week. They have talks going with Netflix on the new series. When the Xfinity Series moves to The CW, NASCAR will produce the broadcast in-house. Lots of exciting moves in the media for stock car racing.
What do you hope we get out of the potential NASCAR and Netflix series?
