NASCAR social media handles hacked, advertise crpyto token on Solana

NASCAR‘s social media accounts appear to be under attack. Tuesday afternoon, the sport’s main X account as well its Xfinity and Truck Series accounts, shared a press release announcing the launch of a new crypto coin.
“Introducing $NASCAR Token—the official digital asset of motorsports, built on Solana to enhance fan engagement, rewards, and exclusive experiences,” the post read. “Fast. Secure. The future of NASCAR.”
The post was quickly deleted off NASCAR’s accounts.
NASCAR, NBA social media accounts hacked, offers fake crypto coin
NASCAR was almost certainly hacked, just as the NBA‘s social media account was earlier in the day. The fake announcement said the NBA was launching NBA Coin, “a groundbreaking digital asset designed to redefine fan engagement, transactions and experiences within the basketball ecosystem.” The release said the coin would be launched on the Solana Network.
The league’s PR team confirmed to Front Office Sports that their social media accounts were indeed hacked. Even after the confirmation, the NBA was still being hacked as the official X account reposted the press release dozens of times. Shortly after the reposts, the league seemingly took control of the account, as the reposts were quickly deleted.

NASCAR and the NBA are the known victims so far. Obviously, other leagues could be next until the situation is resolved. But obviously, it left many confused in the moment.
“It’s got a be a hack,” one fan wrote on X. “The contract address looks sketchy, and they call it “the official digital asset of motorsports,” not NASCAR. Also, marketing folks love to capitalize slogans, so each of those words should be capital letters.”
