NASCAR suspends driver Gray Gaulding after domestic violence arrest

NASCAR has made a decision on Gray Gaulding, the part-time driver who was arrested for misdemeanor domestic violence this week. The news of Gaulding’s arrest broke earlier this week.

Gray Gaulding was booked into Mecklenburg County Jail on Tuesday, April 2nd following his arrest. Gaulding has already appeared in court and has been ordered to not contact the victim in this incident. Gaulding was released into the custody of his father.

NASCAR has indefinitely suspended Gaulding for the arrest. That is consistent with punishments given to other drivers for similar incidents. Gaulding is due back in court on July 25th.

According to Fox8 in North Carolina, Gray Gaulding was given a list of court orders that he must follow during this process.

Gaulding has to stay away from the home of the alleged victim, he is to refrain from harming the alleged victim and shall have no contact with the individual in question. He will also abide by any valid protective orders and will not be allowed to possess any firearms during this time.

Gray Gaulding, 26, was seen as a promising NASCAR prospect as he went through the ranks.

Gray Gaulding hasn’t raced since 2023

Coming up through the stock car ranks, Gray Gaulding showed a ton of promise. He is still a young driver under the age of 30, but this latest incident could do a lot of harm to his future prospects in the sport, if he had any left.

Gauliding was just 15 years old when he won his first NASCAR-sanctioned event, a K&N Pro Series West race at Phoenix. He was the youngest winner in K&N history. While Gaulding came through the ranks with the likes of Cole Custer, things never panned out.

Gaulding raced a full Xfinity Series season back in 2019 with SS-Green Light Racing. He finished the season with a runner-up at Talladega, and a few more top-10 finishes. He was 13th overall that season.

In 2023, he ran 11 races for SS-Green Light Racing and attempted to qualify for 12 overall. He had two top-10 finishes, Talladega and Daytona-2. He made one start for Rick Ware Racing in the 2023 season, finishing P29 at Gateway.
